What are punctal plugs?
Punctal plugs are used to treat dry eye. They are tiny plugs that are made of either collagen or silicon and are gently inserted in the drainage canal so that tears can retained longer in the eye and keep it moist. Punctal plugs are easily placed in the drainage duct and are not uncomfortable. Silicon punctal plugs are permanent whereas punctal plugs are dissolving and temporary. You cannot see or feel the punctal plugs once they are inserted.

My eyes run water but the eye doctor says I have dry eye-how can that be?
There are many symptoms of dry eye. These include dryness, burning, redness and yes-running eyes. Sometimes when you suffer from dry eye syndrome, your eyes can become so dry and irritated that they actually can become watery in an attempt to sooth the irritation. It is important to see your eye doctor so that the proper diagnosis of dry eye can be made and other causes of watery eyes can be ruled out. This is especially the case if you have had LASIK or wear contact lenses.
